The Institute of Women Studies and Research launched its activities in 1986 by a group of women active in the field of women problems under the title of “Center for Studies and Research in Women’s Affairs” and in 1994 received the permission of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (High Council for Extension of Universities) to form a research group. After the expansion of the arena of its activities, it received the necessary license from the Labor Ministry and was registered with the Organization for Registration of Companies under number 9296.
The institute has the following affiliated bodies:
- A Research Center with two Research Departments established under the permission of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology
- A Center for Technological Growth established under the permission of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology
- A Counseling Center
- A specialized bilingual (Persian and English) quarterly titled Zan Farzaneh (Scholarly Woman)
The Institute has been selected as the Secretariat of the Network of Health and Fertility Rights.

Objectives:


The main objectives of the Institute are:
1. To identify and discuss women problems for better planning to improve the women conditions
2. To promote the scientific and technical level of the researchers
3. To identify the priorities of women problems and introduce scientific solutions to solve them
4. To contribute and influence the national, regional and international processes for the improvement of women conditions
5. To Improve the public knowledge and skills of the citizens about the family
